Staatstrauer in Nordkorea

Az elnyomó kommunista diktatúrák általában összefonódtak a személyi kultusszal. Példa erre Lenin, Sztálin, Hruscsov, Brezsnyev, Mao Ce-tung, Rákosi, Kádár, Benes, Gottwald, Novotny, Ulbricht, Honecker, Gomulka, Zsivkov, Ceausescu, Tito, Enver Hodzsa és egyéb diktátorok személyi kultusza.

Kim Jong Il (1942.02.15. - 2011.12.17.) esetében kissé másképpen fest a helyzet, ugyanis őt a népe istenkirályként (god-king) tisztelte:

Kim Jong Il as 'God King'

For those who've paid close attention to North Korea's citizens and state media in the past, however, the excessive grief displayed at Kim Jon Il's death strikes them less as sincere mourning and more as brainwashing at best and outright coercion at worst.

Journalist Lisa Ling, one of the rare journalists to get inside North Korea in 2009 as a National Geographic reporter, documented the god-worship that surrounded Kim Jong il in a documentary called "Inside North Korea" (watch video below).

Ling documents North Koreans' blind and extravagant devotion to Kim Jong Il and the way in which the dictator-controlled state media praised him to such an extent that government and news were one and the same.

Much of the lamentation seen at the death of "our dear leader" makes more sense in this context, especially when Ling describes the relationship of North Korean citizens to the late ruler as that of subjects to a "god king."

Lisa Ling gives viewers a rare glimpse of North Korea and its absolute dictator Kim Jong II, who is known as the "Dear Leader" and who rules the country as a god-king.

There are some incredible contradictions in this land; for one, how an officially atheistic state can give religious reverence to a god-king.

There is joy and pandemonium in the huge hall and everybody makes for the huge pictures of Kim and his father displayed prominently on the wall loudly giving them thanks for receiving their sight! Apparently nobody attempted to thank Dr. Rui or his team but most rushed to express adoration toward their 'god-king' and 'Great Leader.' Many of these people also held out, or raised, their arms in a plain gesture of religious adoration. Quite a few fell on their knees before the massive portraits apparently feeling unworthy to even lift their eyes towards their god-king.

The President God: Kim Jong-Il

Kép

Since his death in 1994, his son, Chairman Kim Jong-Il has been guardian of the divine power. During his time in power, Kim Jong-Il has melded the state mythology of divine right with ancient despotism and Marxist socialism; in turn, the idea of "god/king" has become a cash machine for the Kim family and their loyal supporters.

Korea
God, Kim Jong-il and his son
In North Korea, Kim Jong-il is a god. Kim has three sons. Numerous prophets outside North Korea have looked to their oracle bones, giving their human inclination of who would be the next leader of the kingdom. Each of the three sons has been seen as the heir, at least once.
Maybe it will be one of the three sons. Maybe, it will be a surprise. God hasn't spoken yet.

Most were horridly boring tracts written by the President-God Kim Il-sung or his son Kim Jong-il. They went to great lengths to expound the not very controversial idea of the self-determination of people, which is after all a pretty simple concept to grasp, and which has become increasing popular around the world - though these two authors can hardly take credit for having invented it.

Good wishes are reverberating throughout the Korean Peninsula and among Koreans abroad in praise of the legendary leadership quality of Kim Jong-il as its proud people celebrate the 65th.

The second is the little-known fact that the birthdate of Kim Jong-il, February 16, 1942, coincides with the Lunar New Year universally observed in East Asia.

Kim Jong-il, Kim Il-sung, Jumong and Dankun have four things in common. The first denominator is the sun. Korean legend says Dankun and Jumong were sons of the Sun God. The name "Kim Il-sung" means "the sun" and the name "Kim Jong-il" refers to the sun, too. Dankun descended on Mount Paekdu from heaven about 5,000 years ago and Kim Jong-il was born on Mount Paekdu during the Lunar New Year holidays, as described by the Japanese police station at the foot of the mountain in a report sent to Hamgyong Provincial Police Headquarters. The sun or heaven signifies the paramount aspiration of the Korean people. Kim Il-sung used Mount Paekdu as the key base for his anti-Japanese guerrilla struggle.

NEW YORK - The issue of Kim Jong-Il's health evokes the theological question, is God dead?
No doubt, but the question remains, is God dead, or can God die, and how do you convince North Koreans that Kim Jong-il is a god whose spirit will live on for years after he leaves the scene? For all the tall stories, he just doesn't inspire the adulation his father commanded among millions of fanatic followers - that is, those who weren't imprisoned or starving or stricken by disease.

If it doesn't prove that Kim Jong-il is in good health or at least alive, the propaganda does prove to North Koreans that he's a god whose immortality is assured in story, song and statuary, regardless of potshots from the hated Japanese against whom his father fought in the runup to World War II. For North Koreans, it may be reassuring to know god is not dead.

Anyway, that doesn't matter to the average man in Pyongyang. The North Koreans adore Kim. They swoon in his presence. He is, to them, something of a deity. A god-king. Don't believe us? Check out this article from the official government news agency in September 1997: The Korean people regard it as their most worthwhile life to uphold Secretary Kim Jong Il and live and work in perfect harmony with him, said Rodong Sinmun in a signed article August 31. The author of the article said: The Korean people absolutely worship, trust and follow the General as god. These noble ideological feelings are ascribable to the fact that they have keenly felt the greatness of the General from the bottom of their hearts. He is the great teacher who teaches them what the true life is, a father who provides them with the noblest political integrity and a tender-hearted benefactor who brings their worthwhile life into full bloom. The life of the Korean people who form a harmonious whole with the General is a revolutionary life to glorify their noblest political integrity. This is why they have unbendingly advanced the revolution with an unshakable faith, not wavering under any obstacles and trials. The General is the mental pillar and the eternal sun to the Korean people. As they are in harmonious whole with him, they are enjoying a true life based on pure conscience and obligation. They are upholding him as their great father and teacher, united around him in ideology, morality and obligation. So, their life is a true, fruitful and precious life without an equal in history.

Sins of the Son
Kim Jong Il's North Korea Is in Ruins, But Why Should That Spoil His Fun?
When the Dear Leader was born in a humble log cabin on Korea's sacred Mount Paekdu in 1942, a bright star and a double rainbow appeared in the sky and a swallow descended from heaven to herald the birth of a "general who will rule all the world."

A soldier in the army commanded by the Dear Leader's father, the Great Leader, saw the star and the rainbow and rejoiced, carving a message into a tree: "Oh, Korea, I announce the birth of the Star of Paekdu."
